Cristina Kirchner Recalls 2005 Summit of the Americas

Former Argentine President Cristina Kirchner, who is under house arrest, posted a message on social media to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the historic Summit of the Americas in Mar del Plata. At this event, Argentina rejected the creation of the FTAA (Free Trade Area of the Americas) and distanced itself from the United States, strengthening its alliance with Venezuela led by Hugo Chávez. Kirchner shared a short video with footage from that summit, as well as a clip of a speech by her late husband, Néstor Kirchner. In his speech, he emphasized that any integration must recognize diversity and not impose a one-way path to prosperity. He also stated that 'the market alone does not reduce poverty levels' and demanded that international organizations that contributed to the growth of debt assume their share of responsibility.
